Pictures and trip reports from 2008
Cooler closer to the coast [map]
Marc, Eric, Chris [The Captain], and Bob [Major WWWobble] rode north on a day when heat records were being broken all over the bay area. Heading toward the "cool coast" seemed like a good idea in the planning stages. Too bad the coast was anything but cool.
Mid-week Riders [map]
Leave San Mateo at 8, Breakfast in Livermore about 9. Home 250 miles later.
WWWobble, Eric, and Marco head east, south, west, then back north in a 300 mile loop with the Panoche Inn more-or-less the destination.
At Dick's request we headed south after breakfast in Cupertino. After a freeway slog to the mission at San Juan Bautista Marc led the way to the coast. Note for future rides: don't make a habit out of forgetting to bring your wallet, causing your riding mates to buy you breakfast, gas, lunch, etc.
From the pictures it looks like three riders headed north of the Golden Gate bridge. If they followed the plans from an earlier email message I suspect they rode up to Healdsburg after breakfast for West Dry Creek and worked their way through Asti for the north-end of the Geyser's Loop and then came south from there. Or they took some other route.
Pictures from a Saturday after brunch ride around Calaveras Reservoir. Hey, we're retired. Saturday can be part of the mid-week if that's what we want.
WWWobble and Marc took a short ride on this first day of spring, 2008. Out and back was just under 100 miles. Lunch was at the Gazos Grill.
Three riders headed north toward Clear Lake under partly cloudy skies and 60ish temps on what is likely to be the last mid-week ride of the winter. Pictures from Marc and Chris.
Al is still here from Buffalo, trying to escape winter. What better way than a ride in the north bay under a mostly blue sky with yellow flowers green hills. Sure beats white snow.
Yep, it's still winter. Chris tells how easy it is to get lost on the way to Patterson for a beginning-of-the-week, President's day midweek ride that eventually wound up at the top of Mt Hamilton.
A winter ride (honest, even if it did hit 70 deg the calendar still says it's winter) down the coast and over the Carmel Valley road with a stop at the mission near Solidad.
Marc rides to brunch in Watsonville where he meets Darryl. Originally the ride was going to be a 350 mile loop over Naciemiento-Ferguson road but the weather caused one rider after another to change plans. Wet, cold, and the possibility of snow will do that.
The first ride of the year is to Ft Ross. Only two riders met for breakfast in Mill Valley before heading north on the coast. Chris provides the story with pictures (including pictures of his map) for those who want to follow along.
