Mid-Week Riders/Mid-Week Rides [2007]

A short Friday ride to Santa Cruz and the coast.

Five riders braved near winter weather (Blue skies and 50F temps) to ride some of the twisty east bay roads. We didn’t ride far and we didn’t ride fast, but we had a good time anyway.

Four rode to Mt Diablo and the Blackhawk auto museum. More might have joined the ride but the Captain Fubar-ed the notifications: some of us don’t read e-mail first thing in the morning :-)

Six riders braved the 70 degree weather to find new roads around the Marin headlands, Mt Tamalpais, and Pt Reyes. Some had breakfast, all had lunch in Pt Reyes Station. Many pictures were taken. The miles may have been few, but the smiles were many.

Chris has a great write up of a Wednesday (can’t get much more mid-week than that) ride. Chris says “Our plan was to ride Mt. Veeder road which runs up and along the top of the Myacamas Mountains, that range of coastal mountains that separate the Napa Valley from the Sonoma Valley.”

WWWobble described his weekend ride to Geyserville (and beyond) with friends Ron and Cheri. From the report: “… we are coast side, happy, smiling, weather is clear and 62F. Calm seas, no wind.” Sounds like a great day for a ride.

Marc and Dick follow WWWobble to Big Sur for lunch. Weather was absolutly perfect with temps in the 70s and low 80s most of the day. Of course, the ride started with breakfast to make sure the riders had the energy to make it until lunch time!

Pictures from a mid week ride down California 25 then over to the coast via Carmel Valley Road. Chris, Bob, and Dick rode. Marc joined them for breakfast.

Four rode the North Bay, about 210 miles round trip from Pacifica. Chris says: it WAS scenic and mostly new roads for both Larry & Dick. This made it worthwhile in its own right.

Breakfast at the Brookdale Lodge was followed by the discovery of new roads, dead ends, and several chances to get lost in the roads around SR 9 and 236. All but 7 miles of the 150+ miles ridden were on two lane (or less… sometimes much less) roads.

The group gets lost in the east bay. So lost that the Major’s trip report has him traversing Hecker Pass (which links Silicon Valley to the Monterey Peninsula) while still in the east bay. That’s some pretty good map reading, Major WWWobble.

These non-midweek rides are beginning to become a habit. I suppose you can’t blame a guy for taking an after brunch ride when the February temps are in the 70s. Chris and Randy did Stage Road.

Spur of the moment kind of thing, with Marco and Bob. Rode down to Davenport for lunch. Bright, sunny with a couple of dark clouds here’n there, but that was it. Low 60’s all the way!

OK, so it wasn’t a mid-week ride, but WWWobble found it necessary to follow up on the lack of activity around the drained Uvas reservoir.
