The idea for the ride was proposed by Major WWWobble. Leave his house at 10 AM, meander over to Moss Landing for lunch at Phil’s, then be home by 4 PM. So much for planning.
The first part of the plan, leaving at 10, went without a hitch.
Only two riders, though. The second part of the plan, meandering over
to Moss Landing didn’t quite go to plan. We spent more time meandering
and started getting hungry when we hit the outskirts of Santa Cruz.
Change of plan: we’ll have lunch at the Beach Street Cafe.
That plan lasted about 4 miles. The Capitola exit off of 1 beckoned. OK, beachside Capitola it will be. They even somewhat motorcycle friendly with bike parking. OK, it’s metered bike parking at $1.50/hour, but still. Lets see… 5 quarters… 50 minutes; that should be enough time for lunch.
Lunch was quite good, but a little longer than expected. Then there was the detour to take a few more pics of the beach. We got back to the bikes maybe 65 minutes after leaving… just in time for the officer to finish printing out WWWobble’s ticket. Mine was already on the bike.
Don’t care. Riding on a day such as today made the ticket seem almost worthwhile. I did wear my heated gear just-in-case. I never had to turn it on.
