It was another one of those last minute “Hey, lets go to lunch” rides. We left the San Mateo Highlands about 10:30 AM and headed over to the coast. Once in Half Moon Bay we meandered south on back roads before getting onto highway 1 for the final 20 miles to Davenport for lunch. After lunch we headed north, meandering on different back roads. David headed home on 84, Bob and I went east on 92. Chris and Randy stayed on 1. I was back in the San Mateo Highlands about 3:30. My total miles were about 110.

A “short notice” ride is called for today. It appears to be warming from the cold blast of the past few days.
Bikes must be ridden to maintain reliability. Riders must ride to maintain sanity. So, three arrive (Randy, Marco, Chris) at the meeting place at the meeting hour where Dave E. is busy reducing the air pressure in his tyres (note proper spelling). Seems the TPM on his BMW instrument cluster advises too much pressure. We note this is an abnormal preflight procedure, but Dave is satisfied he over inflated them first thing in the morning because of the cold, and he is Good to Go.
So Go we do. And we are five riders along Crystal Springs Lake to Hwy 92 where we follow truck traffic out to the coast. The sun is shining and temps are rising nicely as we pass thru HMB and turn onto some little back road (Higgins Canyon —thank you new Apple Maps). I will not go into detail about the WendyPunk that happens next — and really don’t have to as no image exists in evidence, so we’ll move right along to our next turn onto Lobitos Canyon Rd up the hill which then connects with Tunitas Creek Road to go back down the hill to return to Hwy 1. This is a backwards ride for most of us, so it seems as if we are doing “new” roads.
Weather is warming nicely and we roll south along Hwy 1 to Davenport for lunch at Whale City Bakery. Good eats, good company, met a nice lady rider who may choose to join us someday on another MWR — hey, there’s lot’s of worse things to do midweek…
After an enjoyable, social lunch we depart northbound on Hwy 1 for Swanton Road. This short diversion off Hwy 1 is not to be missed if the Captain is along for the ride, and today he is, so Swanton Road is on the agenda, and completed. It is a pleasant little road, if just a bit bumpy in places. Gazos Creek / Cloverdale is up next and dispatched. Dave then heads East on Pescadero for home, the rest of us do Stage Rd to San Gregorio, and then Hwy 1 for a return to our various homes.
Nice day for a short ride. Good lunch. Great companionship. No tickets, mechanicals, or close calls. Lot’s of laughs. An excellent MidWeek Ride.
